ETP for Sunday Trading on long weekends for 2010

The Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor has released a new policy titled Extended Trading Hours – Sunday Trading on Long Weekends.

This policy applies to Sundays that fall on long weekends for 2010, namely:

  1. Sunday, 28 February (Labour Day);

  2. Sunday, 4 April (Easter);

  3. Sunday, 25 April (Anzac);

  4. Sunday, 6 June (Foundation Day);

  5. Sunday, 26 September (Queen’s Birthday holiday); and

  6. Sunday, 26 December (Christmas).

In accordance with the policy, nightclub, hotel, tavern, small bar and special facility licensees who wish to secure extended trading permits (ETP’s) for those Sundays must apply by 30 November 2009.

The licensing authority will only consider extending trading by one hour.

An individual application must be lodged for each long weekend for which an ETP is sought.

Special circumstances must be demonstrated before the grant of additional hours will be considered. The application must also identify harm minimisation strategies and demonstrate to the licensing authority why it is in the public interest to approve the application.

Licensees are reminded that ETPs are granted at the absolute discretion of the licensing authority. Licensees must not advertise additional trading hours until after an ETP is granted.
