The Hospitality Messenger is very conscious of WA’s liquor, hospitality, event and tourism industries being hit hard by the current COVID-19 situation and is committed to providing as much support as possible.
Take-away liquor volume restrictions have been revised to the following, affecting producers mainly:
“(a) Each relevant licence is subject to a condition that the licence does not authorise the sale of packaged liquor in excess of the following quantities per customer per day:
(i) 11.25 litres of beer, cider or pre-mixed spirits (eg. one carton or a combination of each kind of liquor up to 11.25 litres); or
(ii) 2.25 litres of wine (eg. 3 bottles); or
(iii) 1 litre of spirits; or
(iv) 1 litre of fortified wine; or
(v) a combination of any two of (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv) above but not a combination of two of the same product.
(b) Each producers’ licence is subject to a condition that the licence does not authorise the sale of packaged liquor in excess of the following quantities per customer:
(i) 11.25 litres of beer, cider or pre-mixed spirits per day (eg. one carton); or
(ii) 9 litres of wine per week (eg. 12 bottles); or
(iii) 1 litre of spirits per day; or
(iv) 1 litre of fortified wine per day; or
(v) a combination of any two of (i), (ii), (iii) or (iv) above but not a combination of two of the same product”
“customer” means a person other than a liquor merchant as defined by section 3 of the Act but does not include a person outside of Western Australia;
“relevant licence” means any hotel licence, hotel restricted licence, tavern licence, liquor store licence, club licence, wholesalers licence or special facility licence.
Occasional licences now available to existing licensed venues for up to 6 months to authorise the sale of packaged liquor with a takeaway or delivered meal where the provision of packaged liquor would not normally be permitted.

The restrictions that came into effect on 25 March 2020 are set to be reviewed. At this stage that should happen around 8 April 2020. The restrictions could stay the same, be increased, relaxed or removed.
The licensing authority is still open for business. Applications are being accepted, advertised, processed and determined, although some stages may take a little longer than usual at the moment.
