The Hospitality Messenger is very conscious of WA’s liquor, hospitality, event and tourism industries being hit hard by the current COVID-19 situation and is committed to providing as much support as possible.
Yesterday afternoon the State Government announced that when the time comes for venues to re-open, all staff working at them will need to have completed new COVID-19 hygiene training.
Unfortunately, during his live announcement the Premier said that there is no indicatation as yet when venues will be able to re-open. However, the introduction of the two-tiered training seems to be an encouraging step.
The primary tier of basic training will be for all staff.
A second and more detailed course will be required for managers and supervisors of venues.
There will be no cost to licensees or staff to complete the training and it will be available online.
The Hospitality Messenger urges licensees to make arrangements for the training to be completed as soon as possible so as to be ready for when the green light is given to resume trading. You can access information about completing the training here.
Licensed venues that are not trading or are closed to the public remain licensed premises and must still comply with licensing laws. Inspections could still occur and fines issued for non-compliance.
Following on from the last edition of The Hospitality Messenger, in relation to licensees maximising on the time being provided by the current shutdown to review, revise and refresh their businesses, the following are additional things that should be considered in that regard.

To support social distancing guidelines and contactless delivery options, the Director of Liquor Licensing has introduced a six month ETP option for licensees of liquor stores, hotels (without a separate drive through) and clubs, to allow for the sale of liquor from a carpark or other external area adjacent to the licensed premises. Applications will be fast tracked and the application fee waived. Local council approval may still be required. Click here to apply.
