Alec has extensive experience in the preparation of liquor licence applications on behalf of prospective licensees. Alec provides clients in Western Australia’s hospitality industry with advice in relation to all aspects of the liquor licensing regime including leasing, planning and probity requirements.
Alec has successfully obtained hotel licences, tavern licences, small bar licences, liquor store licences and special facility licences. On many occasions, he has successfully obtained licences on behalf of clients despite interventions and objections being filed in opposition to the application.
Alec has also successfully acted on behalf of people opposed to the grant of licences. Alec has significant experience preparing and filing objections on behalf of concerned residents and businesses as well as existing licensees.
Alec has appeared in review hearings before the Liquor Commission and defended disciplinary proceedings against licensees by the Director of Liquor Licensing and Commissioner of Police.
Alec is the secretary of the Small Bar Association of WA.
Alec also has experience in a wide range of employment related matters, including unfair dismissals, employment contracts, union negotiation and discrimination issues. Alec has appeared in the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission and participated in numerous conciliation conferences before the Fair Work Commission.
When Alec commenced employment with Lavan in 2009 he initially worked in the Insurance team where he gained experience in the areas of Insurance Commission, Law Mutual, MDA and asbestos claims.
