Origin New Year’s Eve events - Advised and assisted with various aspects of the 20,000 person event at Claremont Showgrounds including arranging various contracts, management plans and approvals.

ALDI liquor stores - Obtained new liquor store licences for ALDI supermarkets in WA in the face of strong opposition from the Police, Health Department and McCusker Centre for Action on Alcohol and Youth.

Brookfield Place (Precinct development in Perth CBD) - Acted for both the owner/developer and new licence applicants in obtaining several new bar licences for venues in the precinct which were opposed.

Events

The Lavan Liquor, Hospitality & Events team has been involved with many public events over the years, including various wine and beer festivals, music festivals and concerts and many others all around Western Australia.

We have assisted in obtaining approvals, liaising with government authorities, dealing with local councils and Police, preparing risk management plans, assisting with the development of noise management plans and obtaining appropriate liquor licences.  This experience has included dealing with convoluted and contentious issues surrounding licence conditions.

We founded the Small Bar Association for W.A Inc. to give small bar operators an industry voice and to help work towards transforming the drinking scene.

Tourism

We provide advice to facilitate business in the tourism industry including, obtaining relevant approvals.  We source support for new entrants into the tourism sector from our contacts in the industry.

Emeritus Partner Dan Mossenson was a founding director of and has acted as legal counsel for, the Indian Ocean Tourism Organisation Inc.  He was a director of Tourism Council Australia Limited (WA Branch) and a founding director and Honorary Life Member of the Tourism Council Western Australia Limited.

Sports and recreation

We advise sporting organisations on a variety of issues relating to association rules and constitutions, game rules and other matters.  Emeritus Partner Dan Mossenson chaired the Racing Penalties Appeal Tribunal from its foundation in 1990 to 2018 and presided over hearings and appeals against determinations by stewards and others.

Lavan is proud sponsor of Clubs WA and has, for decades, acted for Clubs WA and many of its members from within the licensed clubs industry.  We provide a variety of advices to licensed sporting clubs and other incorporated associations.

We have acted for many Western Australian sporting clubs on a variety of matters, from small regional clubs through to State representative bodies including having assisted in the establishment of the Western Force and then acted for and sponsored the organisation in the years since.
