The Independent Health and Aged Care Pricing Authority (IHACPA) has a critical new role in Australia’s aged care sector: modelling costs and advising on funding.  Success depends on unbiased advice.  Sounds simple?  The reality is more complex.
 
You see, unlike its effective role in hospital funding, IHACPA’s influence in aged care is limited to recommendations to government, not decisive pricing. 
 
With significant funding gap (acknowledged by the government and the Aged Care Taskforce) the extent of government adoption of IHACPA’s recommendations will directly impact the sustainability of the sector as the Boomer juggernaut comes upon us.
