In her most recent Business News article, Amber Crosthwaite writes an open letter to the new Albanese government ministers Mark Butler and Anika Wells calling for the Ministers to act on the aged care workforce crisis.

Since the publication of this article, CEDA – Committee for Economic Development of Australia has released the latest aged care workforce figures in its 2022 Duty of Care report yesterday – they are truly shocking.

  • The annual staff shortage has doubled in less than a year – escalating from 17,000 to 35,000
  • A staggering 65,000 workers a year are leaving the sector – no doubt for better pay.

In her letter, Amber also asks the Ministers to address failing provider viability, leverage the lessons presented by the NDIS and acknowledge the positive social and economic impact this sector has.

There is a lot of optimism in the sector following the election of this new government, but action is needed now.
