Samuel Speechly is a senior associate in Lavan’s Construction & Infrastructure team.

Samuel advises clients across the mining, energy, resources, construction and infrastructure, and major projects sectors on high-stakes disputes and complex commercial matters.

He has acted in a number of significant proceedings, including Built Qld Pty Limited v Pro-Invest Australian Hospitality Opportunity (ST) Pty Ltd and Civil Mining & Construction Pty Ltd v Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal Pty Ltd – both recognised as leading authorities and influential in shaping industry practice.

Samuel’s experience covers a broad range of contentious matters, with a particular focus on contractual disputes, project-related claims, urgent court applications, and security of payment regimes in all Australian jurisdictions.  He also regularly assists clients on front-end matters, including commercial negotiations, contract drafting and risk allocation for major infrastructure and construction projects.

Recognised by Doyle’s Guide in 2022 as a rising star and future leading lawyer in litigation, Samuel is known for his strategic thinking, commercial awareness, and ability to work seamlessly with project teams to deliver clear and practical advice.
